Cory Goldstein

Cory Goldstein is a philosopher-bioethicist specializing in research ethics. With Profs. Charles Weijer and Monica Taljaard, he is currently co-leading an internationally recognized, multidisciplinary team in the development and dissemination of guidance for the ethical design and conduct of cluster randomized trials. He holds a BA in philosophy (McGill University), and an MA and PhD in philosophy (Western University). Cory’s research program sits at the intersection of philosophy and clinical epidemiology. His research focuses on identifying and proposing solutions for ethical issues raised by randomized controlled trials that use innovative designs, and his published work appears in leading bioethics and medical journals. In 2025, he received the Grimshaw Researcher in Training Award, The Ottawa Hospital’s most prestigious trainee award that “recognizes a student, postdoctoral fellow, or resident who has demonstrated outstanding effort in clinical or applied health research and is deemed highly likely to succeed in future research endeavours.” Cory is also a dedicated and passionate teacher with over ten years of in-person and online undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate instructional experience. His teaching interests are primarily in healthcare ethics, public health ethics, and research ethics. He has been invited to give guest lectures and create educational modules and webinars for various institutions worldwide. As a result of his commitment to university teaching and mentorship, he received the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine Excellence in Mentorship Award (2023) and was nominated twice for Western University’s Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
