Jess du Toit

Bioethicist
The University Health Network

Toronto

Jess du Toit is a bioethicist at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. While she spends much of her time supporting the Toronto Rehab sites, Jess is involved in clinical, organizational, and research ethics projects across UHN. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from Western University, supervised by Prof. Weijer, as well as a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Philosophy from the University of Cape Town. Her PhD dissertation focused on ethical issues at the intersection of paediatric research ethics, animal research ethics, and animal ethics more generally. But her research interests within bioethics are very broad and include vulnerability in both clinical and research contexts, ethical issues that arise in the context of caring for older adult populations and those with eating disorders, as well as the fair allocation of scarce healthcare resources. In addition to her soft spot for philosophy and bioethics, Jess is a keen runner and never says no to a good cup of tea. She also really loves dogs. She can be reached at jessica.dutoit@uhn.ca
