Dr. Hey is the co-founder of Prism Analytic Technologies, a data engineering and analytics start-up based in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his PhD in philosophy (2011) from Western University, Canada, supervised by Charles Weijer, and BA (Honors) in philosophy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He previously held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Biomedical Ethics Unit at McGill University, a visiting scholarship at Oxford University, and was the Co-Director of Research Ethics at the Harvard Medical School's Center for Bioethics. His academic work lies at the intersection of ethics and philosophy of science—with a focus on clinical trials and the ethical challenges that arise across the drug research and development enterprise. His published work has appeared in scientific, medical, bioethics, and philosophical venues, including Science, JAMA Internal Medicine, Science Translational Medicine, Neurology, The BMJ, PLoS Medicine, Journal of Medical Ethics, Hastings Center Report, Ethics & Human Research, The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, and Philosophy of Science.
